OSU center releases food safety app

Oklahoma State University's Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center recently released a new mobile app providing food safety information.

The FAPC Connect App gives users food safety and other food-related information, Mandy Gross, the center's communications services manager, said in a news release. The app, available on the App Store and Google Play, gives users information on different topics, such as food safety, and access to videos, articles and training by topics and experts, according to the release.

"Food safety affects food processors and consumers alike," Gross said. "Each year about 1 in 6 Americans get sick from foodborne diseases. FAPC strives to meet the food safety and security needs of the food industry, and the FAPC Connect app is another way to meet these needs."

Creation of the app was made possible by donations from companies in the food industry, according to the release. Center Director Roy Escoubas said in the release that industry support was key.
