10,000 pounds of raw chicken recalled for containing metal

Nov. 11--More than 10,000 pounds of raw chicken have been recalled after discovering the meat may be contaminated with metal. The U.S. Department of Agriculture'sFood Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall on Thursday, Nov. 9.

The chicken was processed by Empire Kosher Poultry, Inc., from Mifflintown, Pa. An employee at the company noticed foreign metal material in a chicken breast while performing routine duties, a FSIS press release stated.

So far, there have been no reports of injuries or illness from consuming the recalled chicken. Consumers with the products are asked not to eat them. The chicken should be thrown away or returned to the store the chicken was purchased from. Anyone with concerns about their health after eating the recalled products should contact their doctor.

This is considered a Class I recall, the highest health risk level.

The following products from Empire Kosher Poultry, Inc., have been recalled:

* 4-pound to 5.25-pound tray packages of Empire Kosher natural chicken breasts, boneless and skinless with a case code of 46375 and "sell by" date of Nov. 14

* 1-pound to 1.25-pound tray packages of Empire Kosher natural chicken breasts, boneless and skinless with a case code of 7488 and "sell by" date of Nov. 16.

* 2.5-pound tray packages of Empire Kosher natural chicken breasts, boneless and skinless with a case code of 7598 and "sell by" date of Nov. 16.

* 1-pound to 1.25-pound tray packages of Empire Kosher natural chicken breasts, boneless and skinless with a case code of 92615 and "sell by" date of Nov. 17.

* 1-pound to 1.25-pound tray packages of Empire Kosher natural chicken breasts, boneless and skinless with a case code of 7888 and "sell by" date of Nov. 16.

All these products have the establishment number "P-1015" inside the USDA inspection mark and were shipped nationwide.
