BRIEF: More than 200 million Hyde County farm eggs recalled over salmonella fears

April 15--HYDE COUNTY, N.C. -- More than 200 million eggs distributed from a Hyde County farm including into Virginia and North Carolina have been recalled after fears of salmonella.

Rose Acre Farms of Seymour, Indiana voluntarily recalled 206.7 million eggs Friday that originated from the Hyde County farm, according to a statement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The eggs could contain Salmonella Braenderup which can be fatal to young children or the elderly. Healthy people can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

The eggs were sent to Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia through retail stores and restaurants, the statement said.

As of Friday, 22 illnesses had been reported. The brand names for the eggs include Food Lion, Country Daybreak and Great Value.
