BRIEF: Olmsted County names public health director

Post-Bulletin - 6/2/2018

June 02--Olmsted County's new public heath director will start June 11.

Graham Briggs will fill a role that has been vacant since former Public Health Director Pete Giesen was promoted to deputy county administrator to oversee general government operations at the start of the year.

Briggs grew up in Minnesota and has 16 years of experience working in public health, with time as a scientist and epidemiologist at state and county levels in Arizona. His last 11 years have been in management, according to a news release from Olmsted County.

In his most recent position, Graham served as the manager for Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology at the Pinal County Public Health Services District in Arizona. As manager, he oversaw surveillance, prevention and response to threats in the community including infectious diseases, heat-related illness and drug use and abuse.

He has a bachelor of science degree in microbiology from the University of Minnesota, as well as a master's degree in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University.

Under the county's new administrative organization, the public health director will report to Paul Fleissner, the deputy county administrator over Health, Housing and Human Services.
